Performance & Recovery

For athletes, active adults, and anyone who pushes hard and wants to come back stronger.

What We Offer

The Sound Mind & Body Studio was built around insight found on trails, slopes, ridges, and lakes. What we discovered at altitude was the same thing every athlete eventually discovers: pushing harder is not the answer. Recovering smarter is.

We offer a complete, stackable recovery protocol — grounded in frequency science, informed by extreme performance, and available to every body that moves.

Sound Familiar?

You train consistently. You take recovery seriously — sleep, nutrition, maybe ice baths or compression. And still, something isn't quite right. Your body takes longer to bounce back than it used to. Your nervous system feels like it never fully resets. You know the data on HRV but your numbers aren't moving. You're doing everything right and the results are plateauing.

Or maybe it's simpler: you're active, you love to move, and you just want a recovery practice that actually matches the demands you put on your body.

Either way, you've found the right place.

1

HRV declines up to 40% after intense training without adequate recovery support

2

Red light therapy has been shown in peer-reviewed studies to reduce muscle soreness by up to 50% post-exercise

3

PEMF therapy is used by professional sports teams across the NFL, NBA, and Olympic programs worldwide

Recovery Happens at the Cellular Level.

We Work There.

Most recovery methods work on the surface — massage, stretching, ice, compression. They're valuable. But they don't reach the nervous system. They don't address cellular energy production. They don't interact with the body's own electromagnetic frequencies.

Frequency-based recovery does. Sound, light, pulsed electromagnetic fields, and biofeedback technology interact with the body at a level that conventional recovery simply can't access — supporting faster cellular repair, nervous system regulation, and the kind of deep restoration that turns a good athlete into a resilient one.

Brian Block learned this at altitude, where conventional recovery failed him and frequency-based tools didn't. At The Sound Mind & Body Studio, every protocol we recommend is built on that hard-won understanding.

Performance & Recovery Stack

What We Recommend for Performance & Recovery

These modalities can be used individually or combined into a custom session stack — tailored to your training schedule, your goals, and where your body is right now.

  • Your real-time performance readiness score.

Why it helps: HRV tells you whether your nervous system is ready to perform or needs to recover — before your body breaks down and forces the conversation. Use it to train smarter, not just harder. Start here to establish your baseline.

  • Cellular recovery at the deepest level.

Why it helps: PEMF delivers electromagnetic pulses that support muscle repair, reduce inflammation, and restore cellular energy production after intense physical stress. Used by professional sports teams worldwide.

  • Photobiomodulation for muscle and tissue repair.

Why it helps: Near-infrared and red light wavelengths penetrate tissue and interact with mitochondria — the cell's energy centers — to accelerate repair, reduce soreness, and support skin and joint health. The InHarmony Red Light 720 delivers full-body coverage at professional-grade intensity.

  • Nervous system reset through sound and vibration.

Why it helps: The InHarmony Sound Lounge delivers synchronized low-frequency vibration through the body while rich soundscapes play through headphones. After intense training or competition, this is the modality that brings the nervous system from 'fight or flight' back to 'rest and restore' — faster than sleep alone.

  • Mental recovery and cognitive reset.

Why it helps: Physical recovery is only half the equation. The BrainTap headset uses light pulses and binaural beats to guide brainwave activity into states associated with deep rest and mental clarity — addressing the cognitive load that intense training and competition place on the mind.

  • A whole-body scan for what's holding you back.

Why it helps: The Qest4 bioenergetic scan maps stress patterns across 40,000+ health categories — identifying where the body is compensating, where nutrition or supplementation may help, and what underlying patterns may be limiting your recovery and performance. Think of it as a wellness blueprint.

Built By Someone Who Needed It Most

Brian Block is the first Iowan to complete the Seven Summits — including Everest, after years of competing in endurance races, extreme sports, and traditional sports. He didn't build this studio from a textbook. He built it from decades of pushing the human body to its absolute limit and learning, the hard way, what recovery actually requires.

Vanessa Block brings twenty years of Ayurvedic medicine and meditation training — the ancient complement to Brian's extreme performance background. Together, they've built a recovery practice that works for every athlete, at every level, from every starting point.

East meets West. Push meets restore. Science meets soul.

FAQ’s

  • Not at all. These modalities benefit anyone who moves regularly — runners, cyclists, hikers, gym-goers, yoga practitioners. If you push your body and want it to recover well, this is for you.

  • That depends on the modality. Red light and vibroacoustic therapy work well immediately post-training. For a full HRV scan, we recommend waiting at least 2–3 hours after intense exercise for the most accurate baseline reading.

  • For active athletes in training, weekly recovery sessions deliver the most consistent results. For seasonal or recreational athletes, monthly sessions plus a pre/post-season protocol work well. We'll help you design a plan at your first consultation

  • Absolutely — and you should. These modalities are designed to complement, not replace, your existing practices. They reach levels that massage, ice, and compression don't.

  • Currently, these services are not covered by insurance as they are wellness offerings rather than medical treatments. HSA/FSA eligibility varies — check with your provider.

  • Those are valuable tools. What we offer is a nervous system and frequency-based approach that goes deeper — especially the combination of HRV tracking, PEMF, and vibroacoustic therapy together. Most clients who've tried everything else say this feels different.

Your recovery is not an afterthought. It is the strategy.

Your first consultation is complimentary. We'll scan your nervous system, walk through your goals, and design a session plan that fits your training schedule and your life. No commitment. No pressure. Just the beginning of a better recovery practice.
